Admission Modes for Master's Degree Holders
Different pathways for candidates with Master's degrees.
Regular Mode
Full-time Institute MoE funding/UGC-NET/Inspire Fellowship/JRF
- A valid GATE score is not mandatory for applicants with an M.E./M.Tech, M.S., or equivalent qualification who are applying under the Institute Fellowship.
- However, a valid UGC-NET or CSIR-NET qualification is essential to avail the JRF fellowship.
Project Mode
Full-time Sponsored project funding
- Under Project Mode, the candidate will receive a stipend equivalent to the MoE stipend from the sponsored project.
- Except for the funding source, there is no distinction between the regular mode and the project mode.
External/Part-time Mode
Part-time Self-funded
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience, along with a No Objection Certificate (NOC), is required for eligibility to the External Direct Ph.D. program.
- Candidates admitted under this category will not be eligible for a stipend.
- Applicants working in R&D organizations are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be deputed on leave by their parent organization or department for the duration of the residency period and are required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the parent organization at the time of admission.
- A valid GATE score is not required.
Direct PhD for Bachelor's Degree Holders
For academically exceptional applicants and IIT graduates.
Non-IIT Applicants
For academically exceptional applicants
- Non-IIT applicants must have qualified in GATE (Civil Engineering) within the last two years.
IIT Graduates
For IIT graduates with strong academic performance
- IIT graduates are exempt from the GATE qualification requirement.
Note: PhD scholars are expected to contribute to teaching assistantship duties.
